Board sizes, top-layer thickness and installation details are on each range's page. The right installation method for your home depends on the subfloor and is confirmed at the measure.
Engineered oak has a real oak top layer bonded to a stable plywood core, so it moves less with changes in temperature and humidity than solid boards. That makes it a practical choice over concrete slabs and in apartments. The grade describes how much natural character the boards show: cleaner grades have fewer knots and less colour variation, while more rustic grades show more of the wood's natural features. Our European Oak Plank range covers three grades and 39 colours, from soft whites and neutrals to deep browns and greys.
Parquetry patterns suit entries, hallways and living rooms where the floor is a feature. Our European Oak Herringbone and Chevron blocks and the hand-assembled Bespoke Versailles panels are all glued directly to the subfloor, so a flat, sound subfloor is essential. We check this at the measure and include any levelling in your quote.
If you prefer native timber, choose from Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Jarrah, Sydney Blue Gum and Tasmanian Oak across the Sidura 1 Strip, Royal Aus Timber 14/3mm and AquaCore Aussie Species ranges. For a traditional floor, our Traditional Solid Flooring comes in 26 species, including Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Jarrah and Ironbark. It is supplied raw, then sanded and finished on site after laying.
The AquaCore ranges put a real timber surface over a water-resistant core, which makes them a good fit for open-plan areas that take in the kitchen and dining space. Water-resistant is not the same as waterproof: wipe up spills promptly and keep standing water off any timber floor.
Depending on the range and your subfloor, timber is floated over an underlay, glued directly to the slab, or clicked together. Before installation we look at the subfloor's flatness and condition, and on concrete the slab needs to be dry enough for timber. In apartments, check your strata by-laws first, as many buildings set acoustic requirements for hard floors and an acoustic underlay may be needed. Our installation is covered by a 2 year installation warranty, and each range carries its own manufacturer's product warranty.
If you have original boards under old carpet, or a timber floor that has lost its finish, we also offer floor sanding and polishing.
Try any of these floors in a photo of your own room with our Room Visualiser, or see the samples in person at a showroom: timber flooring in Penrith, Hornsby, Campbelltown and Logan. Or book a free in-home measure and we will bring the samples to you.
A few questions to work through before you choose, so the floor suits the room as well as your taste.
Concrete slab, timber joists or an existing floor each suit different products and installation methods. On a slab, engineered timber can usually be glued down or floated; the slab’s moisture and flatness are checked first.
Engineered boards have a real timber top layer over a stable core and suit most modern homes and apartments. Solid timber is the traditional option: it is laid raw, then sanded and finished on site.
The top layer is the real timber you walk on. A thicker top layer generally gives more scope to refinish the floor in future. Ask how many times a particular product can be resanded.
The grade sets how much natural character shows. Brushed, matt finishes tend to hide everyday marks better than gloss. Always look at samples in your own light, as colour can change between a showroom and your home.
Wide, long boards suit open-plan spaces; parquetry patterns such as herringbone, chevron and Versailles make a feature of hallways and living rooms.
In apartments, check your strata by-laws before choosing a hard floor, and allow for an acoustic underlay where it is required.
Use felt pads under furniture, mats at entries, and a damp (not wet) mop. Keep pets’ nails trimmed. If spills are likely, consider a water-resistant range such as AquaCore.
Check both the product warranty for the range you choose and the installation warranty. Our installation is covered by a 2 year installation warranty.
Engineered timber has a real timber top layer bonded to a stable plywood or composite core, so it moves less with temperature and humidity and suits concrete slabs and apartments. Solid timber is timber all the way through; ours is supplied raw, then sanded and finished on site after laying.
Yes. Engineered timber is commonly glued directly to a concrete slab or floated over an underlay, depending on the range. The slab needs to be flat and dry enough for timber, which we check at the free measure and include in your quote.
Engineered timber can be used in kitchens with care: wipe up spills promptly and use mats near the sink. For open-plan kitchens and dining areas, the AquaCore ranges put a real timber surface over a water-resistant core. Water-resistant is not waterproof, so standing water should still be avoided.
Timber is a natural surface and can scratch and dent. Brushed, matt finishes and oak's grain tend to hide everyday marks better than gloss. If scratch resistance is the priority, ask us to compare timber with hybrid or laminate at your measure.
Engineered timber is the usual choice in apartments because it is stable over concrete. Check your strata by-laws first, as many buildings set acoustic requirements for hard floors; an acoustic underlay may be needed.
Often, yes, depending on how thick the real timber top layer is. A thicker top layer generally allows more refinishing. We can tell you what to expect for the range you choose, and we also offer floor sanding and polishing for existing timber floors.
It depends on the floor area, the product, the installation method and any preparation the subfloor needs. A single room is generally quicker than a whole-home project. We confirm the expected schedule in your written quote.
Each range has its own manufacturer's product warranty, shown on its product page; for example, the AquaCore ranges carry a 30 year structural warranty and Sidura 1 Strip a 25 year residential warranty. Our installation is covered by a 2 year installation warranty, subject to terms.
