Herringbone, Chevron or Versailles?

Parquet is flooring laid in a pattern rather than in straight boards. The pattern you choose changes the whole feel of a room, so it helps to know how each one is made.

Herringbone
Rectangular blocks with square ends, laid in a zigzag. Our European Oak Herringbone blocks are 600 x 120mm.
Chevron
Blocks cut with angled ends, so they meet in a continuous V. Our European Oak Chevron boards are 600 x 90mm.
Versailles panels
Square panels with an interlaced pattern, hand-assembled in Prime grade European Oak, in 600 x 600mm or 800 x 800mm.

Laid by our installation team

Parquet needs a flat, dry subfloor and a careful set-out. We test concrete and timber subfloors for moisture free at the measure, and our installation is covered by a 2 year installation warranty.

What is the difference between herringbone and chevron?

Herringbone blocks have square ends and are laid in a zigzag, with each block's end meeting the side of the next. Chevron blocks are cut with angled ends, so they meet point to point in a continuous V. Read our herringbone vs chevron guide.

What is Versailles parquetry?

Versailles is a classic French pattern made from square panels with an interlaced design. Our Bespoke Versailles panels are hand-assembled in Prime grade European Oak, in 600 x 600mm (15mm) or 800 x 800mm (20mm) panels, in four colours each.

Is your herringbone flooring real timber?

Our European Oak Herringbone and Chevron have a genuine 3mm European Oak surface, and Royal Aus Timber 14/3mm has a 3mm Spotted Gum or Blackbutt top layer. Royal Hybrid Herringbone and Karndean Art Select give you the pattern in hybrid and vinyl.

Which herringbone floor suits a busy family home?

Royal Hybrid Herringbone has a 0.7mm wear layer, and Art Select is a glue-down vinyl in herringbone formats. Both are practical choices for busy rooms. Whatever floor you choose, wipe up spills promptly.

Does parquet take longer to install than plank flooring?

Usually, yes. Each pattern has to be set out from a centre line and cut at the edges, so it takes more time than straight boards. Your written quote sets out what your rooms need.

Can you source a parquet pattern you don't show online?

Yes. If you have seen a pattern or timber you can't find on our website, ask us and we will look into sourcing it.
